You should carefully and throughly examine the domain service's web site. Check what they offer and make a list of what they offer you, so you can compare it with other providers. Next do searches on both Yahoo & Google to see what comes up about the provider.

You cannot count on the information you find being totally accurate or true, but if you see a lot of negative comments or find out there are lawsuits against that provider, stay away. As you know, anyone can put almost anything on the Internet. Read each comment you find with a critical eye and ask yourself does the person making this statement have some type of agenda, or are they a competitor. Are their comments or statements fact based or opinionated.

Through your research, you will probably learn of several of the major providers, but do not limit yourself to them. Check out at least 7 to 10 providers. The more you check, the more you will learn, and the easier it will be to choose the provider who is right for you.
